Where did the Brown Scapular come from?
*The Brown Scapular story begin with a boy called Simon Stock. When Simon was 12 years old, he decided to give his whole life to the service of God. He was called Simon Stock because he spent a lot of time in the stock of an oak tree while thinking and praying to God.
*Later in his life, he gathered the children of the village around him and taught them about God and the Catholic Church. He decided to join a group of men devoted to the church and Mary, called Carmelites. They were having a lot of trouble and one day Mary appeared to Simon and told him to have everyone wear the Brown Scapular . She told him it would be a sign of their love for her.
*She told Saint Simon Stock that the Brown Scapular also reminds her children how much she loves and protects them.
*After you have a priest bless your Brown Scapular , take good care of it. Often say to Jesus and Mary *I love you*, *help me to be good* while holding the scapular, or say one Hail Mary.
